The Thames Valley Adventure Playground was established some 25 years ago to provide recreational opportunities for people with physical and learning difficulties. The Playground occupies a visually stunning but sensitive Green Belt site on the edge of an extensive lake formed by earlier gravel workings.

The scheme was required to increase and improve the accommodation provided in the original log cabin type buildings by capitalising on the advantages of this lakeside location. A key requirement was to ensure a fully accessible design which blended the new building with the existing structure within a mature landscape setting. The new annexe provides maximum visual and sensory stimulation for playground users, extending over the water’s edge to provide a truly unique experience.

The scheme is now completed (on time and on budget) and is operating successfully.
